1. First things first, tell us a bit about yourself and what your business is.
My name is Phillip Nguyen and I’m an 18 year old from Adelaide, Australia. I’m currently completing a gap year, taking a break after high school but plan to begin university next year studying a degree in medicine.
My blog and Instagram are little sneak peeks into one of my favourite aspects of life: food. I feel like food is such an amazing thing that brings people together and makes you happy. It satisfies not only your stomach but your soul as well. I am so passionate about food that I’ve begun to take photos of my culinary outings and to write about my experiences. Though I’ve only recently started, I am absolutely loving it and can’t wait to explore what is to come.
2. Where can we find you online?
3. How did you get into what you do creatively
For my year 12 studies, I undertook a subject called English Communications. For one of my tasks, I had to write a food review and format it as if it was a blog post. It was a process that I really loved doing. I enjoyed expressing myself creatively through language and then using my artistic abilities to design a simplistic blog that would appeal to a wide audience. I ended up receiving a great mark for it and as a result, I was instantly hooked. I had to do more and so I decided to start an actual blog and I couldn’t be happier.
4. What’s a recent project you worked on that you just loved?
Every food outing that I go to is a project that I love. Rearranging the dishes to obtain the perfect placement is difficult but a challenge that I’m willing to tackle. What I love, though, is discovering amazing establishments that serve delicious food, making my little work project that bit better.
5. Where / Who do you gain inspiration from?
I follow an instagrammer called TaraMilkTea and she was my initial and ongoing inspiration for my food photography. Her aesthetic and theme is the perfect balance between minimalistic and busy and I always am so happy when I see her profile and photos.
6. If you had one piece of advice to give, about anything you want, what would it be?
Don’t be afraid to be who you are. To be unique is to be beautiful and no one can take that away from you.
